A Festive Vintage Dress for Christmas

It’s almost Christmas! Can you believe it?! I mentioned on Instagram that I haven’t really been in the holiday spirit lately, but I’m really hoping this weekend will turn it around.

I’m heading home to Chicago today and we’re doing all the Christmassy things! We’re decorating my mom’s amazing aluminum Christmas tree, seeing the Nutcracker at the Joffrey Ballet, watching holiday movies, and obviously I’m forcing my family to play my Christmas Prince drinking game.

I think getting all dressed up helps me feel festive, too, which is why I’m so excited to share these photos with you! I love this dress so much. It fits so well, it’s festive, and it makes me feel like a first lady. What’s not to love?!

I originally bought this dress a few years ago when I was living in Dublin, Ireland. I used to frequent the vintage shops when I was in grad school and I found so many beautiful, unique pieces. That’s always my best advice for vintage shopping: just pop in all the time. You never know what you’re going to find!

This dress is from Harlequin Vintage, which was one of my go-to spots back then. It’s such a classic silhouette in a fun color and the fit is amazing. The fabric is thick, too, so it’s perfect for a winter event. I’m planning on wearing this to the Nutcracker with my family this weekend, but I think it would also be great for a formal office holiday party or even an interview.

I also want to talk through the accessories for a minute because they all have a special meaning (which is what makes personal style so fun to me).

My earrings are another vintage find, but this time from Japan (lol you’re getting an idea of what I do when I travel). I went to visit my wonderful friend Betsy last year and we found these in the best vintage store in Kyoto. I love wearing pieces that remind me of cool places I’ve been – they’re so unique and are great conversation starters!

I’ve been super into the whole hair scarf trend lately and I love this silk scarf from Julia Engel’s Gal Meets Glam Collection. I got it when I met her earlier this year in Chicago and have started adding it to all my outfits lately. I love the pink and red combo for Christmas, too, so I couldn’t resist.

And finally – the shoes! I love these Badgley Mischka shoes because I wore them to PROM. My dress was unbelievably affordable so my mom let me ball out on my shoes and I’ve loved them ever since. They are not comfortable at all, but they are so special to me that I force myself into them every now and again.

What are you wearing this Christmas? Do you have special pieces that help you feel festive? The general consensus seems to be that it doesn’t feel like Christmas because we don’t have any snow! Nothing makes the midwest feel more magical than a white Christmas. Here’s to hoping!

Haha some pieces are just beautiful, not functional! And I haven’t yet, but I will soon! There are a few more places I want to try first. That’s so exciting that you’re moving to Madison! Welcome!
